Brian Madden’s Workplace AI Resources
People / Blogs / Newsletters to follow
There are literally thousands of AI-related blogs, newsletters, and people you could read and follow. I personally subscribe to a few dozen. As I look through my inbox and feed reader, the following people write the posts that I always read. I highly recommend following these people. ( = paid newsletter)
This list is what I’m personally liking now. I am not compensated if you subscribe to any of their newsletters.
Alessandro Perilli
Originally know as the creator of virtualization.info, Alessandro then worked at Gartner and Red Hat, focusing on AI for a long time. Now he has a subscription newsletter which is REALLY good, focused on the practical understanding of AI in business.
Daniel Miessler
I’ve been a fan of Daniel’s for years. I knew his blog and newsletter as an interesting mix between IT security and personal improvement & meaning. He’s started covering AI in the recent years, and his analyses are great.
Ethan Mollick
Ethan is probably best known for his New York Times bestselling book, Co-Intelligence. (I read it. I like it as a good primer on how AI might impact things, but it’s more for background info rather than specific, actionable advice.)
His newsletter is great, maybe a bit in-the-weeds AI science (he’s a professor), but informational still. He’s my main path into the “science” of AI (which is not my area, but I can dip my toe in via him).
Brian Madden
This is me! You probably know about me since you’re reading this site, but if not, here’s who I am. I don’t have a newsletter (I use this site instead, which is free.) You can subscribe to both the blog and Strategy Guide updates if you want to stay informed of what I’m writing. I also regularly post updates to LinkedIn.
Podcasts worth following
I listen to (and love!) lots of podcasts. (And lots of AI podcasts.) The list here is not a list of everything I like, rather these are the ones that are particularly useful for people interested in AI’s impact on the workplace.
The Workplace AI Strategy Guide (WAISG)
This is the companion podcast for this website, which is me (a human) reading & providing commentary on the blogs written on this site. (So you basically have the choice of either reading or listening to the blog content.)
A newer podcast launched in February 2024, James & Gerjon are EUC experts who met at E2E and connected over their love of AI over beers. I love that they’re IT and EUC experts, but not AI experts. I was a guest on their fourth episode which was all about workplace AI.
The Artificial Intelligence Show
Weekly show which covers AI industry news with a focus on making it actionable and approachable for business leaders. These guys really know their stuff, super smart, and over 100 episodes. Bonus, these guys are from Cleveland, like me!
Dwarkesh is a young guy who gets super high-level guests (Tony Blair, Mark Zuckerberg, Marc Andreesen, Ilya Sutskever) and goes in-depth with them. He doesn’t always talk about AI, but often does. I consider his interview with Leopold Aschenbrenner (4.5 hours!) as a “must hear” for anyone interested in AI. (They discuss Leopold’s famous 165-page essay looking at AI advancements over the next decade.)
